Life Cycle Impact Calculator

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Reduce is first for a reason, because reducing the products you consume is still the best way to minimize your environmental impact. INVISTA understands that and believes that, when it comes to carpet, Sustainability Begins with Products That Last™. Extensive testing has shown that carpets of Antron® fiber can last up to 75% longer than the majority of competitive carpets, or have a longer First Life™. As a result of this longer First Life™, carpets of Antron® fiber can have up to 38% lower energy consumption, and 42% lower greenhouse gas emissions (expressed as CO2 equivalents) than the majority of competitive carpets.*

To show you how much energy savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions this can mean for your installation, we have developed a Life Cycle Impact (LCI) calculator which provides real world examples of what these energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions mean. Simply plug in the square yards of carpet you plan to install, and find out how much you can save.

  • The comparative calculations are based on the relative life of the majority of North American competitive commercial/contract carpets compared to Antron® nylon carpet of similar weight, color and construction, and reflect the replacement cost in terms of additional energy needed and increase in CO2 emissions for the majority of competitive products.
  • First Life™ is defined by INVISTA as the time period from when a new carpet is installed until it needs to be removed due to unacceptable appearance and/or performance. The energy reduction calculations include assessments of the face fiber, backing materials, carpet manufacturing, transportation of the fiber and finished carpet, and routine scheduled maintenance for 15 years.
  • The energy reduction calculations cannot be adjusted for a specific carpet style but assume industry average face weight, backing weight and backing type prevalence for commercial/contract carpets.
  • Data for energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions is based on Department of Energy data on residential consumption of electricity by end use.

*Results based on testing a representative sample of carpets of comparable construction, style and color.
