Navigate Performance and Environmental Product Claims with Confidence
Carpets of Antron® nylon can last longer.
Did you know that carpets of Antron® nylon can last 75% longer than the majority of competitive nylon carpets1 and that carpets of Antron® fiber can have 38% lower energy consumption and 42% lower greenhouse gas emissions (expressed as CO2 equivalents) than the majority of competitive carpets?*
All Antron® fibers are third party certified as Environmentally Preferable Products (EPP)
In 2002, INVISTA sought out an independent, third-party certification for Environmentally Preferable Products (EPP). SCS Global Services (SCS), a reputable third-party organization evaluated Antron® carpet fiber and certified that it met EPP criteria. Antron® Lumena™ and Antron® Legacy™ fibers are the first carpet fibers to have earned the Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) designation and the only carpet fibers to have been recertified multiple times. Environmentally Preferable Products were established by U.S. Executive Order 13101 (replaced by EO13423) as products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. According to SCS Global Services, December 2012, to be certified as environmentally preferable, the product must perform equal to or better in every category of potential environmental impact than other products serving the same function, with no environmental trade-offs. All Antron® fibers are currently EPP certified.
And now, the standard is tougher than ever. SCS modified its EPP certification requirements to reflect the latest in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods and provide a more comprehensive evaluation of environmental impacts. To certify carpet fibers as Environmentally Preferable Products, LCAs of the products as well as a composite baseline representing the entire carpet fiber market were performed and combined with carpet performance data. The certification standard examines the carpet material's entire life cycle and requires the certified products to demonstrate improvements over the baseline in environmental impact categories.
In 2009, INVISTA commissioned a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to be conducted by Boustead Consulting & Associates Ltd., a renowned global leader and third-party expert in environmental life-cycle evaluations to help our customers better understand the environmental benefits of our products. The LCA results reflect the eco-profiles of INVISTA's manufacturing processes for Antron® carpet fibers. Combining the results of the LCA with data from real-world performance testing conducted by INVISTA’s technical team showed that not only can carpets of Antron® nylon can last 75% longer than the majority of competitive nylon carpets*, but that carpets of Antron® fiber can have 38% lower energy consumption and 42% lower greenhouse gas emissions (expressed as CO2 equivalents) than the majority of competitive carpets1. At INVISTA, when it comes to carpet, we believe that Sustainability Begins with Products that Last™.
INVISTA Performance and Environmental Claims Validation
In 2012, INVISTA sought the expertise of SCS Global Services to evaluate the Antron® nylon performance testing protocol and process and the resulting performance, environmental and comparative claims. In 2013, SCS provided third party validation that these methodologies and subsequent results are based on adherence to industry standardized test protocols, as well as stringent supplemental testing and rigorous evaluation methodologies that result in statistically valid comparative performance claims.
