Apples to Apples

You've carefully selected your carpet and now are being offered an alternative product positioned as an equal. How can you be sure it will meet to your performance expectations?

Proper fiber selection will address most of the carpet performance and appearance retention needs. There are also industry test methods you can specify that will ensure carpet performance will meet expectations.

Apples to Apples

We’ve developed a worksheet that you can use to compare fibers to ensure that you are getting the performance you need for your project.

Performance Factors

Listed below are 4 key performance factors that can dramatically affect the life of your carpet.

Texture Retention

The degree to which carpet will retain its texture after foot traffic and general wear is based on a number of factors:

  • Polymer type
  • Fiber shape
  • Carpet construction

Antron® gives you superior texture retention based on the type 6,6 nylon polymer and exclusive hollow filament shape.

Soil Resistance

Both efficacy and durability of soil resistant properties in a carpet are influenced by:

  • Polymer type
  • Fiber shape
  • Topical treatments

Require that carpet measures 500 ppm fluorine initially, and 400 ppm fluorine after two hot water extractions using AATCC 189.

Carpet of Antron® nylon provides unsurpassed soil resistance and release compared to any competitive fiber.

Static Control

Static control properties in a carpet can be achieved by either antistatic filaments in the fiber bundle or by applying a topical treatment. Efficacy and durability vary widely depending on which method is used. Carpet should be tested for static resistance with test method: AATCC 134.

Antron® nylon has built-in antistatic properties that are warranted for the life of the carpet.

Stain Resistance

Stain resistance can be achieved through polymer type or topical treatment. Both the efficacy and durability of the stain resistance varies dramatically depending on the way it is achieved.

The type 6,6 nylon polymer in Antron® nylon provides a base level of stain resistance superior to type 6 nylon. For the ultimate in durable stain resistance, specify Antron Lumena® solution dyed nylon or Antron® with StainRESIST™ fiber technology.

When you start with the end result in mind, you can protect your specification of Antron® against fibers claiming to be "equals."
